Session #1 – The Rise and Fall of Oracle PaaS – Why We Moved Off

The implementation of Oracle SOA Cloud Service (SOACS), including the Oracle Java Cloud Service (JCS) and Oracle Database Cloud Service, have been running exceptionally fast this last year with a 100% SOA transaction success rate. So what caused this leading provider of home warranty service to move off of Oracle PaaS?
Get on overview of the cloud services utilized; learn about access, backups, monitoring, and deployment in the Oracle Cloud. Find out first hand the struggles it took to stabilize the environment to operate under peak efficiency, only to be phased out two years later. Was it a failure in the technology? Cost? Competition? Attend this presentation to understand the rise and fall of Oracle Cloud at this customer.

Session #2 –  Hands-on with Oracle Blockchain Cloud Service

If you want to see blockchain in action, this presentation is for you. Here, we revisit some core introductory concepts, but more specifically provide a firsthand look at what Oracle Blockchain Cloud Service has to offer and how it works.

Session #1 – Oracle 19c Best New Features and a few 18c & 12cR2 tips

This presentation will look at which 19c new features that should be investigated for use. This presentation will also look at which 18c new features that should be investigated for use (such as Snapshot Carousel, PDB Switchover, In-Memory External Tables, Merge Partition Online, Advances in the Approximate Query, Polymorphic Tables, Standby Nologging, and Password-less Schema Creation – & others). Most of the features that will be covered will be related to the DBA, but there will also be a few outside that realm that focus on the developer. There will be simple examples, where possible, to show the basic functionality of the new features. Some features are too new to show example, but only explain. We will also look at the autonomous database and Oracle’s focus on the future of security. This presentation will also have a few 12cR2 new features such as Multiple indexes on the same Column, In-Memory Virtual Columns (R2), Adaptive Execution Plans, Approximate Query, and Quick In-Memory Tips and R2 New Features like In-Memory Joins.

Session #2 –  Easy DBA/Developer World: Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse / Autonomous Transaction Processing

Emerging information technology trends for the cloud have the power to transform organizations. In the data management and analytics space, a key cloud service offering has arrived. Still on Oracle 11.2.0.4 ?? Market Driven Support for Oracle

If you are still on 11.2.0.4 of Oracle – I really would really like to encourage you to read Michael Dietrichs blog on extending some level of support for that version – to paraphrase:

first of all, the official document on 11.2.0.4 market Driven Support :

There was a similar offering for Oracle 10.2 as well a while ago – and it is not active anymore. Market Driven Support includes Severity 1 fixes and Security Fixes. Plus in addition, you will get a Technical Account Manager (TAM) for SR related questions and one upgrade planning workshop by ACS Support.

Mike Dietrichs Blog – https://mikedietrichde.com/2019/10/10/market-driven-support-for-oracle-database-11-2-0-4/

I hope all those who are on 11.2.0.X please plan on looking on upgrading to 19C and just skipping 18C.    There are many options and items in 19c that make it worth while (See Mike Dietrich’s blog for the 19c items).

Great Lakes Digital Transformation Summit

I had the privilege and honor to present at the inaugural Great Lakes Digital Transformation Summit, organized by WIT and held at the Troy Marriott.   As a person who has attended conferences for a long time, this conference was a breath of fresh air and fantastic sessions.    Joe Chung from Amazon and was truly inspired by the culture and processes that Amazon uses to bring solutions to customers.   I really liked the “Working back words” concept and the process of creating press releases to analyze a solution.   If you get a chance, please check out these 2 Amazon concepts and processes (slide share and Amazon).   I think most of us was thinking, this would be a cool place to work.

There were other presentations by GM and how they have enabled automation and analytics down to the grass roots level and have enabled analytics and robotics to other folks at GM to perform their own dashboards and robotics – very impressive.

Lastly, really enjoyed the round table with the CIO’s of Wayne, Macomb and Oakland counties.   they provided insight of the challenges of running an IT environment for public entities.   When they expressed the challenge to hire and keep employees, keeping up with technology and modernizing thier IT departments on low budgets and politics, made me thankful i work for a private company.   All 3 CIO’s have made significant progress in digitizing content and upgrading there technology, but expressed this is the just the start and have a long way to go.

The presentations will be ready for downloads in about a week – https://www.witinc.com/great-lakes-dt-summit and encourage people to attend the Digital Analytics conference on March 20, 2020.

I have attached my presentation to this blog if you are interested for download.   Hope you enjoyed my presentation and please send me any questions – gldts-mgangler-presentation-2019-V2

Thanks again to all those attended my presentation and the organizers for inviting me to speak (It was an honor).   also thanks to all the speakers, attendees and sponsors who participated in todays conference.
